09/06/23 SEVEN POINTS OF EVANGELISM
My son David reminded me of an outline for evangelism I used several decades ago, which included:
Presence,
Proclamation,
Persuasion,
Power.
I looked online and saw that some folks include other points, such as, Prayer and Perseverance. As I thought about it I also added Passion.
Here is my revised outline, with seven points:
Prayer,
Presence,
Passion,
Proclamation,
Perseverance,
Persuasion,
Power.
The order is valid, but it is not binding. Prayer is essential from beginning to end. Likewise, the other points are essential throughout our Christian lives and ministries. However, this outline is a good place to start.
I have not given the passages, which go with each point. You can either do that yourself or ask me for that information.
Evangelism is the telling of the Good News. We want to see converts, but our responsibility is to tell the Good News, regardless of how other people respond.
We should Pray for ourselves and for our ministry and for God to lead us to people in need of His message and then pray for those people to believe on Christ and be saved.
We need to live and speak in such a way that there is a Presence of God and His salvation, in our lives and in our words. The Scripture says that we are epistles of God's love.
It is not enough to be a witness through our presence and our proclamation, we must be Passionate about God, His word, His work and those who are still in sin.
We are God's messengers, witnesses, ambassadors, Proclaiming the Good News clearly and passionately to other people. How shall they believe without a preacher, a Proclaimer? God has given us the ministry and the words of reconciliation. Woe is me if I do not Proclaim the word of Christ.
Most of the time we need to find the lost, prepare them to hear and understand the message. Most of the time people do not accept immediately. We must not throw out the lifeline and then abandon those who do not take hold. We must Persevere in our outreach. Most of us needed God to call us and then call us again. Be not weary in well doing.
Our ministry is not simply a chore or task that we fulfill as an obligation. Our ministry is the work of love, mercy, sacrifice, selflessness. We sow the seed, we proclaim the truth, we do the work of an evangelist with the intention of reaping. We proclaim in order to Persuade. We look for fruit, not just sweat, in the harvest fields. The point is that God wants people to be reconciled to Him. He does not simply want to inform them, He wants to save them.
We do the work of evangelism in the Power of the Holy Spirit. The Power of the Holy Spirit is what enlightens and enlivens the lost. The Power of the Holy Spirit is what empowers the believer to live in submission and obedience to God. The power of the Holy Spirit begins us in our faith relationship with God, and leads us in our walk and ministry. These points are part of the cycle of our spiritual lives.
