12/31/23 PUT THE HAPPY IN NEW YEAR

12/31/23 PUT THE HAPPY IN NEW YEAR

I see so many friends who approach special days, Christmas, anniversaries, holidays and New Years, with broken hearts because of broken relationships, which will never be healed or restored in this world, and some which will never be restored.

I wonder how anyone can cut ties with loved one, especially those who have loved them the most and were available in the worst of times. Then I remember the first family. Selfishness and stubbornness took possession of Adam and Eve and then Cain.

God creates people for better than that. God offers them redemption and restoration, but they turn Him down. Sin separates from God, therefore sin also separates those who love the Lord from those who love themselves, love the world, love pleasure, love the praise of men, love material treasures MORE than they love God.

Many will enter the New Year, choosing the wallow of this world rather than the wonder and glory of salvation, choosing self above all else.

I hope that those who have taken a different path than the way of holiness, will turn their eyes upon Jesus.

12/31/23 CHOOSE WISELY

12/31/23 CHOOSE WISELY

This is the last, first day of the week, for the present year. We are about to say, "goodbye" to 2023 and hopefully, "hello" to 2024. Better choose your course wisely.

I hope you are part of a Biblical congregation. Being a Biblical church does not mean being perfect in every area, or even being admirable in every area. Being Biblical means teaching and preaching what the Bible says and living life in line with Biblical revelation and becoming the person God intends you to be, and being a loving, serving part of that body of believers.

Sin separates from God. Either you allow your sin to separate you from God or you will trust in Christ to separate you from your sin.

Being part of the right local church is imperative. It is not easy to find Biblical churches today. It is going to be harder to find strong Biblical churches in the days ahead, and it will become much more difficult to follow Jesus than it has been.

God tells us to, Seek the Lord..., Call upon Him..., Forsake wicked way and unrighteous thoughts, Return to the Lord...

Isaiah 55:6-9
6  Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8  For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

What you do now effects your, "later."
What you do today effects your tomorrow.

The good news is, if a person realizes their need, it is not too late to turn to Christ. But remember, rejection of Christ has gotten you to where you are. Now is the time to turn, while God is speaking to you. When God stops calling you, you will not have a change to get right with God... ever.

12/31/23 OVERSEEING IS SERVICE

12/31/23 OVERSEEING IS SERVICE

People who deny, resist, scoff Biblical, pastoral and church counsel and oversight (Christian discipleship) do not even have common sense, much less spiritual wisdom or discernment.

Every area of life recognizes, requires and respects mature, qualified and authoritative oversight (mentoring).

Good management gives constant, continuous and consistent oversight and leadership.

Seeking and submitting to oversight and leadership leads to success.
The more important the task, then the more precise the oversight, the counsel, the mentoring, the leadership. It requires monthly, weekly, daily, hourly oversight, and sometimes moment by moment oversight.

This includes every discipline of life, from education to athletics, to performing arts, to writing, to business to medical care, to research and development, to cooking, to parenting, to social interaction.... you name it.

Those who are qualified and caring and appointed to disciple, to lead, to guide are helping people grow and be productive, they are serving others.

Overseeing is service to the organization or institution or movement or The Church, and it is service to those who are being trained, and it is service to those who will be reached by those who are being trained.

12/30/23 IT IS ALMOST HERE

12/30/23 IT IS ALMOST HERE

You do realize it will not take much to get our society to totally abandon and betray the very little bit of good that it claims to believe today?

Nothing will be held sacred and no commitment will be binding to a Noahic inclined world. Honor will be gone and life will be cheap, even within family units. Violence and perversion will be the new normal.

Consider the major changes in legal, economic, academic and family standards that have taken place in the last few years, and the current decay and dismantling of moral values, personal responsibilities, interpersonal loyalties, attacks on faith and basic ethics, along with the specific warnings of Srcipture concerning society's told moral collapse.

Once folks lose their Anchor, they are at the mercy of a merciless sea.
We're headed for bad times.

12/30/23 TURN NOW

12/30/23 TURN NOW

The darker the heart, the greater the crime (the sin).

The more blatant and more often the sin, the more urgent God's call.

As the heart hardens, the call of God fades.

There comes a time when the Spirit of God will not strive with man (corporately or personally).

Then the sinner shall be destroyed, and that without remedy.

12/29/23 BEWARE THE SMOKESCREEN

12/29/23 BEWARE THE SMOKESCREEN

Whether you are a Nikki Haley supporter or not, the fact is she answered the question about the War Between the States correctly. It was about the place of Government in society. (yes, it did involve slavery, duh, but it was about the power of Government; it was also about finances and taxes. It was not because all Southerners were racist and all Northerners were champions of freedom and justice).

Saying that Haley and Southerners and Conservatives and Christians are racist for not using the words, "slavery" or "race" in her answer does not promote slavery (only a fool would think such a thing), and it does not permit slavery. This is part of the Left's attack on an entire part of American society, history, heritage, politics, religion, and such an attack actually promotes racism, national upheaval, oppression and discrimination against all races. The facts are so abundant that I won't take time to address them here. After all, the present day attacks on the South, Political Conservatism, white people and Christianity is couched in ignorance concerning history (USA and CSA) and American regional economics, and actual, legalized slavery in the US. This is evident by Lincoln's view of racism and slavery and his actual motivation to save the Union, along with the fact that slavery was legally and politically protected in States that were not part of the South.

The people who attack Southerners, Conservatives, white people who actually know the facts concerning slavery and racism, are people who don't know basic history. For instance, most people who still like to laud it over poor, ignorant, uneducated Southerners, think that the Emancipation Proclamation was Lincoln's act of setting the slaves free. Revising history, demonizing groups, bringing civil upheaval and distrust are the steps taken by Communists and Socialists, and they are the steps being taken in America.

When people discard or destroy the truth about basic historical facts, we should not listen to their explanation of the Constitution, National Economics, Racial Justice or Religious Beliefs or Cultural Fundamentals. It is a ploy to destroy.

This post is not about excusing racism or slavery. It is about honest and just dealings with human problems.

And just in case someone did not get it the first hundreds of times I have said it or did not hear it over the past 160 years, or they have only read revisionist history, WE DON'T WANT SLAVERY OR BIGOTRY.

Regionalism, European and Christian and White Culture, Christian Religion and American values can now be attacked, as long as people use the Race Card or the Religion Card. Our whole country is being attacked under the guise of Social Justice, and the elitists start and carry forward the attack by supposedly being champions of justice, tilting their lances at despised windmills.

The enemy thinks that if he can discredit the righteous, he can defeat the masses. He may be right about that.

12/29/23 GRACE IS AN ESCAPE, NOT AN EXCUSE

12/29/23 GRACE IS AN ESCAPE, NOT AN EXCUSE

I just titled one of my articles, "GRACE IS AN ESCAPE, NOT AN EXCUSE."
(this might be a good Bible Study and Discussion Session for you individually, for family or for friends)
Only the devil would come up with redefining saving grace as an excuse for sin.

The fact that grace is an escape from sin, rather than an excuse to sin was introduced by Paul, in the book of Roman, when God said,
Romans 6:1
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
and again...
Romans 6:15
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace?...

God directed Paul to answer with a resounding NO!
(I have added Romans 6 at the end of this post)

Of course, God, through His Holy Spirit, had clearly said the same thing for thousands of years through His prophets, then through His Son, then through His Apostles.

Yet today, people who call themselves teachers of truth, teachers of grace, teachers of salvation, change the glorious salvation of God's grace into an excuse for sin and sinning.

Don't fall into the trap.

Consider this...
10/19/23 GRACE IS AN ESCAPE, NOT AN EXCUSE
God's grace is not given to us so that we might continue in sin, but rather that we might be saved from our sins and cleansed from all unrighteousness.

God's grace is extended to us, to open our eyes, to turn us so that we might be delivered from the power of Satan unto God, that we might receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith, transformed into a new creation, to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the desires of the flesh, created unto good works, filled with His Holy Spirit, filled with the knowledge of His will, walking worthy of the Lord and pleasing Him, to keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight, being fruitful in every good work, strengthened with all might according to His power, conformed to the image of His Son.

Acts 26:18
18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Romans 12:2
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

2 Corinthians 5:15-17
15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Ephesians 2:10
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 5:17-19
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Romans 8:29
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Colossians 1:9-11
9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

1 John 3:22-24
22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

ROMANS CHAPTER SIX
Romans 6:1-23

1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

12/28/23 STEPS TO LEADERSHIP

12/28/23 STEPS TO LEADERSHIP

I have often thought about what God used to influence my model for leadership (not that I am a great example).

My dad came from a very disciplined, orderly, responsible upbringing and he passed that on to me. I got saved at a very young age, and except for my cycling through rebellion and repentance during my teen years, I did enjoy a warm and growing relationship with Christ as a child. Therefore I was prone to obey my parents and learn from the training they gave me.

Still, there is the question of the leadership model I wanted to follow. Daddy had been in the Navy during WW2 and he was a squared away guy. That certainly made an impression on me, but daddy was not militaristic, therefore it was low key.

As a child and young person I went to the movies a lot. My imagination took me into the swashbuckling of Prince Valiant, The Three Musketeers, Robin Hood, Captain Horatio Hornblower, and I was impressed with the strong, but wise leadership of the silver screen, such as Captains aboard U.S. Naval Destroyers, Minesweepers, Submarines. I liked the fatherly concern and ability to teach their men to make decisions and take responsibility.

In my actual experience as a pastor, I have found myself following that model of leadership. It wasn't intentional, but it seemed to come naturally. As a child, I thought it normal to obey parents without having to be forced, threatened or cajoled. Being part of a family of hard working fishermen I knew that instant respect and obedience was essential to success and safety, and that I needed to pay attention to detail. Failure to perform brought disapproval and possibly would jeopardize the well being of co-workers.

As a young man, working my way through college I studied management and leadership principles, and used those principles in my workaday world.

Of course, God's gifts are fundamental in the performance of my ministry. I am a teacher, I am a shepherd, I am an example of Christ I am an encourager. All of my roles demand that I develop certain technical and personality skills.

I expect people to do their job and to do it responsibly and eagerly and cooperatively. Whenever I have had people who were eager to submit to leadership and training I have experienced success. Good leadership skills are important in every endeavor of life including music, athletics, business, military, family leadership.

Another key ingredient of good leadership is that the leader needs to actually lead, not simply give orders. Leaders may become good leaders if they have been good followers. Leaders need to be compassionate as well as authoritative.

These are some of the traits I have tried to manifest as a leader, whether as a husband, a father, a coach or a pastor.

God gives us instruction in His word, through principles and examples, then He enables us through His Spirit.

12/28/23 ONE LEADS TO THE OTHER

12/28/23 ONE LEADS TO THE OTHER

A closeness to God genders a sense of awe for God's greatness, and a sense of unworthiness for our own sin, and a hunger and thirst for righteousness.

Another way to say it is...
A closeness to God genders an awareness and desire for holiness, and hatred and shame for sin, and a realization that God calls us to holiness of heart and life, and He delivers us from all sin through His Atoning Blood, His Holy Spirit and His word.

As His word says, He gives us everything necessary for life and godliness. If we have not it is because we do not ask or we ask without faith or we ask for self centered reasons. It is the Father's good pleasure to give us the kingdom, and the Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

12/28/23 WHOLE MAN SALVATION

12/28/23 WHOLE MAN SALVATION

If your Bible study time does not result in a closer, more vibrant personal relationship with God, and if it does not produce godly living, then you are not opening your inner man to God.

You are attaining to a head knowledge, but not a heart knowledge; you are developing a form of godliness, but denying the power of God to transform your life and conform you to the image of His Son.

The nature of God, both the non-comunicable and the communicable attributes, should become more awe inspiring and precious to you as you focus on Him and His word. Drawing closer to God will stir a hunger for righteousness (which He will satisfy) and will cause us to grow in grace and knowledge. Without spiritual life and growth and change, a person is a spiritual Frankenstein, rather than a new creation in Christ.

12/27/23 DOCTRINAL AND PRACTICAL

12/27/23 DOCTRINAL AND PRACTICAL

My teaching, preaching, counseling, doctrine is concerned with both precept and practice.

God's truth is both revelational (something that originates and exists outside of ourselves) and experiential (that which we can experience).

12/27/23 WARRIORS OF THE FLESH

12/27/23 WARRIORS OF THE FLESH

Not only did His servants not fight physically, with carnal weapons, against other humans when Jesus was betrayed, tried, crucified, buried, resurrected and ascended to heaven; His servants, His followers, His disciples, His learners, His people have not taken up the sword of steel against anyone, ever, in the history of the Church. Whenever the supposed Church, whenever supposed Christians have taken up the sword for national, personal, religious warfare, it was not the Church, it was not Christians, it was worldly religion stealing the dignity, the name, the honor, the valor, the identity of God and His people. Men of God can no more take up arms against our enemies than men of God can murder the unborn. Just because it has been "sanitized" by warped "Christianity" does not mean that we should fall into its devious trap.

Worldly religions (Roman religion, Islamic religion, Reformed religion) will wage war, carnal war, "holy war," but followers of Christ live by His revelation in the New Testament.

Choose your spiritual model carefully. Don't settle for a counterfeit. Don't swallow the lies of false teachers and false Christs. The way of the cross is blood stained, but it is not stained with the blood of violence, shed by followers of Christ. It is stained with His blood and for all of His people who walk in His steps of sacrifice and obedience.

This is a strange message in today's world, but it is the same message of God, since the New Testament. Because a "woke" generation is reinterpreting and repackaging the teachings of Christ, there are many today, and many more tomorrow, who will believe a lie, thinking that they are believing Biblical truth. This is what has happened concerning supposed, "Christian violence." It may be the norm for today, but it is still the same old lie.

12/27/23 A DOUBLE EDGED TRUTH

12/27/23 A DOUBLE EDGED TRUTH

He is coming back. As the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, He provided and offered salvation, but folks are refusing, rebuffing and ridiculing it.
He is coming back as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. He came as the Suffering Servant, but He is returning as the Conquering King.
He is coming back, and believers are coming back with Him, to rule and reign.
He came as a Sacrifice for sin, but He is coming back as King of Kings.

New Testament Christianity is the presence of God offering mercy, love, redemption to a lost and dying world. Christians are His ambassadors, His messengers of peace and reconciliation. Christians present and promote the Prince of Peace, Who provides the Gospel of Peace. But there is coming a time when He will return and His detractors will cry out for the mountains to fall on them and hide them from the wrath of the Lamb.
We bear the Sword of the Spirit, but we will reign with Him Who will rule with a rod of iron.

Today is the day of mercy, but the day of wrath, judgment, righteousness, accountability is coming. Now is the accepted time, today is the day of salvation.

We plead with you, in Christ's stead, be reconciled to God.

12/27/23 GAS LIGHTING

12/27/23 GAS LIGHTING

Whenever you hear or read someone who denies the efficacy and necessity of faith in salvation, you are being gas lighted by someone who has no idea about the meaning of Biblical faith in Jesus. That person only has a head knowledge (limited) of something that is of a spiritual nature.

12/27/23 ROBBERS AT CHRISTMAS

12/27/23 ROBBERS AT CHRISTMAS

Robbers at Christmas... Pretty low.
While finishing their Christmas shopping about fifty years ago, someone stole all of the gifts from the car of my sister-in-law and brother-in-law.

Almost forty years ago, when we lived in River Heights, someone broke into a neighbors home and stole all of their Christmas gifts from under their tree.
It is always sad to hear about someone being robbed, especially during a time of celebration.
But some robberies are much more disturbing and devastating than these two examples.

There are people who have lost loved ones to a tragic accident at Christmas time, and more tragic because it was caused by a drunk driver.

Some folks have bid a final farewell from the side of a hospital bed, to a dear relative, because of a physical malady. Certainly they will relive that moment every Christmas after that loss.

Children have had a parent suddenly walk away from them, their home, their family, their lives, while Christmas songs were being played on the radio.

Parents have received the unexpected bad news that their child had just died in a military action, and realized they would never welcome them home for another Christmas.

The devil is a murderer and thief. But sometimes the robbery does not look as tragic. It comes when broken relationships separate families, marriages, parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren. The tragedy is compounded when it takes place because of selfishness, because of toxic attitudes, because of pride, because someone will not listen to reason.

Their is no death notice, no final goodbye's, no lines of communication left open. The loss comes suddenly and irrevocably, leaving a missing part and emptiness that will not be filled.

As the years have passed, I have seen many a home robbed of love, joy, peace, unity. I have seen people who have given their best to their loved ones, but in the end they are abandoned, without any remorse.
The only thing that can be done is move on. If it isn't your fault, you can't fix it.

12/26/23 THE STATE IS UNDER ORDERS

12/26/23 THE STATE IS UNDER ORDERS

This is controversial and uncomfortable, but it is very current. I hope you read it. This is not a copy from someone else.

Make no mistake, God has appointed Government (the State) to protect the law abiding and oppressed and to punish criminals and violent aggressors. God has given the sword of steel to Government (the State}.
Make no mistake, Christians are not God's instruments of violence and physical judgment (according to the New Testament). God has given the Sword of the Spirit to believers.
But just as individuals will be judged according to their faith and submission to God, so also will Governments, Nations, Leaders. God holds each one accountable for their own choices and actions. When men refuse to faithfully submit to Christ and do the will of God, they are opting into the judgment of God.

The believers (the true Church, not a denominational or national organization) are in the world, but we are not of the world.
God uses the world, Government (the State), carnal means to accomplish His will.
This does not mean that God ordains for believers to be instruments of carnal violence.

READ THE NEW TESTAMENT.
*God does not command Christians to be violent, to take up the sword of steel against other humans, even for self defense or other people, including Christ.
*God does not commend Christians for being violent, for taking up the sword of steel against other humans, even for self defense or other people, including Christ.
*God condemns Christians for being violent, for taking up the sword of steel against other humans, even for self defense or other people, including Christ.
*God commands Christians to not be physically violent and He commands Christians to not retaliate and He commands Christians to not harm our enemies or His enemies.
*God commands Christians to do good to our enemies and to pray for those who abuse us and to love our enemies.
*God does not command Christians to oppose Government (the State), or law or justice, or the State's protection of the law abiding.
*God commands Christians to submit to legitimate Government rule (State rule), which does not oppose New Testament responsibilities of Christians, and to obey the Government (the State), except when it requires disobedience to God.
*God commands Christians to render to Caesar that which is Caesars. This is not a blank check, which allows politics to do evil (murdering the innocent, oppressing the weak, persecuting Christians).
*God commends believers who submit to the law of love, who love their enemies, who are willing to suffer and lose all for their faith , who follow the Prince of Peace, who follow in the steps of Jesus (and do no violence), who do not war according to the flesh, who do not wield the sword of steel.

Being a Christian is a proactive stance for right and against sin.
Being Christian is not a passive submission to a wicked world.
Being Christian is contrary to religious and irreligious societies.

Violent civil action is part of political, social, religious resistance, but it is not part of New Testament salvation.
Don't be surprised at racial or political violence.

When you see "Christians" being violent, you are seeing a fake Christianity.
When you see Christian armies, killing other armies, you are seeing a lie.
Christians do not oppose Government (the State) for doing what God appoints government to do.

Christians recognize the right of Government (the State) to protect and to punish according to God's rule.
Christians do not allow society to recruit them for violent actions.

Lawlessness may come in opposition to legitimate authority, but...
Lawlessness also comes in the guise of Government.

All authority is required to submit to God and whenever an authority opposes the rule of God, that "authority" is in anarchy and should not be followed in their anarchy.
Do not follow popular Christianity, modernized Christianity, Reformed Christianity, sinning Christianity, Western Christianity.
Follow Jesus and New Testament revelation.
Personally pursue and practice New Testament Christianity.
Love God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, and love your neighbor as you love yourself, and love your enemy, and love with a perfect love, even as your heavenly Father loves with perfect love.

Biblical Christians do not oppose the will of God. Christians follow Christ, regardless how difficult the way man be.

We should follow legitimate authority.
We should not follow "authority" that advocates personal disobedience to the revealed will of God in the New Testament.

As I said, READ THE BOOK.
I have noticed that most people who promote a Constantinian, Papal or Reformed view of violence in Christianity, have other areas of their own personal beliefs and life which are in conflict with other Biblical truths. Don't be swayed by popularity or supposed authority, if their position is not in agreement with the New Testament.

God requires that we love and obey Him more than we love our self, our family, our community, our nation, our politics, our lives, our wealth, our health. Do not allow your love for partisanship, love for State, love for race, love for power, love for family, love for personal rights and liberties, love for country, love for force, love for ease come before your love and obedience to God.

There are pastors who actually agree with the non-violent (not to be confused with the Pacifist) view, but they do not teach it or promote it because it is not popular.

The Biblical view is hated by the supposed Doves and the supposed Hawks of society. Bible Christians will be hated by all men.

It is better to obey God than to obey men.

12/26/23 FROM A COMMON CORRUPTION

12/26/23 FROM A COMMON CORRUPTION

Martha and I watched a movie, "Alone, Yet Not Alone." It is a good movie. I am not sure of the religious leanings of the production company (Enthuse Entertainment), but it did not have vulgar language or sexual content. It was based on early American history and presented basic Christian principles (though from a Reformed position, which is understandable considering the setting).

One of the Delaware Indians recounted his religious beliefs to one of his white female captives. According to this presentation, there was a strong similarity between the Delaware Tribal view of the origin and nature of good, which is very similar to the LDS (Mormon) view. They both believe that a good god and a bad god participated in creation, and those two gods are active in the ongoing tension between good and evil in the world today. The Mormon's identify the good god with their misinterpretation of Jesus and the evil god is their view of Lucifer (the supposed brother of their good god, Jesus, as LDS teaches), and both of the imagined good gods are seeking to rule over this world and mankind, at least according to this account).

Of course, the time period for the events of the movie were in the late 1700s and Mormonism did not begin until 1824, which makes it impossible that the Delaware Tribes were influenced by the LDS. However, if the idea is accurate, then we see that there is a connection between the pagan beliefs of the Delaware Indians and the Doctrines of the LDS. This connection would be related to the pagan beliefs of Eternal Dualism. I did look for the possibility of an LDS connection to the movie production team, but did not find any proof.

The pagan gods of history and the pagan gods of recent religious development all spring from same pagan pool of religious and spiritual corruption. This includes ancient Astrology (not to be confused with Astronomy) of the Babylonians, the Persians, the Egyptians, the Hindus, the Chinese and Japanese and other far eastern religions, as well as the mythologies of Rome, Greece, Scandinavia, South America and North America. The worship of man-made gods goes hand in hand with moral decay in those pagan lands.
Romans 1:18-32
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

12/25/23 THE BIRTH OF THE SAVIOR

12/25/23 THE BIRTH OF THE SAVIOR

If you celebrate the birth of Christ, it only follows that you believe the word of God, right?

Therefore you believe Jesus came to save His people (whosoever believes in Christ as Savior and Lord) from their sins (from the penalty, pollution and power of sin), and you believe that as a Christian you can love God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength (you can be perfect in love, as God is perfect in love). If not, then just be honest and celebrate Santamas.

But if you really celebrate His birth, then walk in His steps, walk in His Spirit, walk in His light, walk in His truth, walk in newness of life, walk in the power of His resurrection because this is the true meaning of His birth.
Merry Christmas.

12/24/23 LAST MINUTE GIFTING

12/24/23 LAST MINUTE GIFTING

I am not one of those people who has my Christmas shopping done by the Fourth of July.

Okay, those who know me, know I am pitiful at shopping and gifting. I heard it was a good idea to get Martha something from Kay Jeweler. I looked all over the store and could not find the section with toasters, waffle makers or garden supplies. I finally found a vacuum cleaner, but it was a used one in a closet, which must have been returned. I don't see how a store like that stays open.

Anyway, back to LAST MINUTE SHOPPING. Sometimes we can't find what we want, sometimes they don't have what we want and sometimes we don't know what we want. So off we go, hoping to find that something special, just waiting for us on the shelf. And WOW, sometimes we find it and it really turned out to be a great gift.

Here is something you can give to a loved one for Christmas. (I will tell you, this is going to be very hard to find, but the good thing is, you can return it and get a better one later).

Find a faithful, loving, Scriptural local body of believer, attend its services, be available to help others, support its ministry. Don't look for recognition. Seek to serve.

Actually, finding a place of worship and ministry is like an orphan finding a loving family. The real gift is in the Gift. God wants you to love Him, worship Him, serve Him. He always has. God also wants you to find a place of truth, love, nurturing. God wants you to give yourself to Him and He will give you everything you need for life and godliness. God wants you to bring your family into the best possible spiritual family you can find.
Don't just grab a "church" off the shelf.

Find the one God has chosen for you and your family. It will be the one that loves you, in spite of yourself but will help you become the person God wants you to be.

12/24/23 CHRISTMAS IS FOR EVERYONE

12/24/23 CHRISTMAS IS FOR EVERYONE

I brought a message recently, addressing the idea that Christmas is for...
Children...
Parents...
Families...
Singles...
The Abandoned and Forsaken...
Everyone.
I focused on each group.

But it doesn't get any more basic than saying Christmas is for families. After all, everyone has been part of a family, to one extent or the other.
God is Family. He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

He created male and female, husband and wife, with a command to multiply and replenish the earth.

But from the beginning the enemy of God has been trying to ruin family.
In spite of man's sin, God provided a Healer, a Savior for broken families and broken lives.

Throughout history, the family has been under attack. Today, the family is still under attack. The devil wants to come between man and God and between man and man. The devil wants to corrupt the idea of manhood, womanhood, family and unity through faith.

Many a person is hoping that this will be the Christmas that brings reconciliation and restoration to their broken family.

I wish each of you a Merry Christmas and the gift of a loving, healed restored family.

12/24/23 SETTING AND FOLLOWING THE STANDARD

12/24/23 SETTING AND FOLLOWING THE STANDARD

Resisting (REJECTING) God's rule is sin. If a person does not turn from this sin, it ultimately becomes unforgivable (as does all sin).

God deals with, and rules over His people directly and indirectly.
His direct interaction is from the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit and the Holy Bible;
His indirect interaction is through Christian proxies (Bible believing, Christ following, Spirit indwelt believers) and
Divinely appointed authorities (husband, father, mother, pastor/teacher, legitimate government).
Whoever resists Divine authority is resisting God.

This is a major reason people abandon their loving, Christian families and Bible centered churches; they don't want to come under authority.

My ministry includes reconciliation for the sinner and equipping the saints, by cleansing, purifying, perfecting, instructing them for life and godliness.

Most people want reconciliation but very few want compete transformation and conformity to the will and likeness of Christ.

It is true that we cannot make others do what they should do, but God's word and His ministers are given for the perfecting of the saints in victorious living. There is no victory in disregarding, disrespecting and disobeying God's rule.

People do not want to be told to turn from drugs (drinking, smoking), corruptions (pornography, gambling, perversion, uncleanness), self worshiping (pride, earthly pursuits, worldly fame, prejudice, deceit, jealousy, envy, gossip, anger, hatred, all carnality).

A major problem with a parent resisting, rebelling and rejecting the rule of God is the fact that they pass their sinful attitude and actions to their children.

I have watched through the years as disgruntled adults have picked up their idolatrous beliefs and behavior (like the prodigal) and ran off to a pigsty, dragging their children from light to darkness, holiness to worldliness and eventually into a life of sin. They take their children to a place that does not address the sins of the parents and they follow the parent rather than following the way of righteousness.
Fathers want to hold on to their carnal desires, self serving and self preservationist views, and mothers want to hold on to their resistance to the leadership and authority of the husband, and the church. They go off to their own private trough, where they can raise and train their children in a life of self orientation, self satisfaction and self aggrandizement.

It is wrong for the husband to abuse or worship his wife.

It is wrong for the wife to see herself above the rule of her husband, or under the foot of an ogre. She needs to see herself as a woman, a wife a mother and part of a faithful body of believers.
People need the authority of God in their lives, for their present and for their posterity.

12/23/23 CHECK OUT THE MESSAGE

12/23/23 CHECK OUT THE MESSAGE

I keep throwing the same bottle out, with the same message in it. The chance of this message in this virtual bottle being seen by the person or persons I want to reach is greater throwing one into the ocean, but it appears the probability of it actually reaching someones heart is almost nil.
I have come to realize through the years that there a lot of folks like myself: waiting. and watching the horizon for the return of a loved one. Knowing that the return is a short step, but someones anger, pride, love of this world makes the return impossible.

Maybe you have a loved one that you have tried to reach, but to no avail. Time is fleeting, opportunities are waning. Doors have been closed, lines have been cut, but still, you hope. I know how it is. So I send out this bottle with a message. Maybe someone will see it and respond.
Please read my original post with the photo.

I WROTE THIS IN 2012. I am "sending" it again, with tears in my eyes and hope in my heart. I love you.

10/06/12 MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE...
A message in a bottle is a note, placed in a sealed bottle and thrown overboard, in hope that someone will find the message. This is an internet message in a bottle.
Message...
I love you.
I miss you.
I want the best for you.
I want to hear from you.
Love,
Signed... (you know who I am).

Explanation
I was actually saying that the MESSAGE is from me, but I wear various hats. I am a husband, a father, a grandfather, an in-law, uncle, cousin, nephew, pastor, friend. So, the message was for someone who would call me by one of those titles.

The message is open, but the relationship is private. This virtual MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE was directed to someone I love, someone I miss, someone I want to hear from.

They may or may not realize it is them, but that is the way it goes with messages in bottles. Sometimes they are discovered and sometimes they just drift in the currents of life or wash up on a deserted island.

My MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE is impersonal, in that it does not say anything specific, or implicate a certain person. It is really very general.... except for the person who finds it washed up on their beach. Hopefully they will hear the depth of concern and respond.

Maybe a "MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE" is not a bad way to send out our love to people. You may say, "Why not just tell them?" Well, we do tell them, but for various reasons, they don't always get the message. Just like a message in a bottle, it is like a desperate, maybe final, attempt to reach someone.

12/22/23 HE WILL FILL YOU

12/22/23 HE WILL FILL YOU

Dig deeply.
Drink deeply.
Live deeply.

People have as much of God as they want.
This is why they have as little of Him as they do.

Matthew 5:6
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Consider these verses...
Psalms 42:1-2
1 ... As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
Psalms 84:2
2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.
Psalms 107:8-9
8 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
John 4:14
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
God gives the believer everything necessary for life and godliness.

If you lack the presence, the power, the purity of the Holy Spirit that you want and need in you life, it is because you either have not asked, or you have not asked in faith, or you have wanted Hm in your life for the wrong reasons.

12/20/23 UNDERSTAND THE INTEGRITY OF THE BIBLE

12/20/23 UNDERSTAND THE INTEGRITY OF THE BIBLE

What should be our reason for believing doctrines in the Bible?

Our belief should not be based on what we want to believe or disbelieve.
Our belief should not be based on what is popularly believed.
Our belief should not be based on human argumentation.
Our belief should be based on what the Bible says, and what it says consistently with itself, and what is consistent with the nature of the God of the Bible.

It should be based on what the words say and what they mean in the passages.
It should be based on the language of the Bible.
It should be based on the historical and cultural records of the day in which it was written.
It should be based on the immediate context as well as the broader context of the Bible.

Simply stated, we should base our beliefs on the Bible, based on what God said, rather than what men say that God said and it should be based on what God meant rather than what men say God meant, which means we need to know the word, understand the word and have a right relationship with God.

Our faith and faithfulness concerning the Bible should be based on pleasing God rather than pleasing personal preferences, or pleasing a system of beliefs, or pleasing a popular view of the Bible.

The Bible is not an accumulation of worldly wisdom or moral precepts or religious observations.
The Bible is God's word, given to us in order to reveal the true and living God and show us the steps in being reconciled with Him.
It is God's message and it is not left up to any private or corporate interpretation.
It is what God intended for it to be and it is to be understood in the way God intended us to understand it.

The Bible is God's revelation.
God taught it to His messengers.
God has preserved it.
God communicates His word to His people by His Spirit.

Since the Bible is a spiritual revelation from the Spirit of God, we must seek God with the whole heart, mind and strength.

If a teaching does not agree with the basic message of the Holy Bible...
If the teaching does not agree with the nature of the God of the Bible...
If the teaching does not lead us to walk in loving, faithful obedience to Christ...
Then the the teaching is not the teaching of the Bible.

12/20/23 DO NOT BE DECEIVED

12/20/23 DO NOT BE DECEIVED

Deliverance from sin and sinning is the miraculous work of God's salvation.
Deliverance from sin and sinning is the reason the Father sent the Son.
Deliverance from sin and sinning is the reason Jesus came, lived, died and rose again.
Deliverance from sin and sinning is the reason Jesus sent His Holy Spirit.
Deliverance from sin and sinning is the reason God gave us His word.

Living in righteousness is not self salvation, or self adoration or self promotion, anymore than being washed in the blood of Christ is self oriented.
Living in sin is self serving and self honoring at the expense of the great God Who has given us everything needed for life and godliness.

As God's word points out, Jesus gave Himself to redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto Himself a distinctive people, zealous of good works; God cleanses our hands and purifies our hearts; we are not only alive to God, but we are dead to sin.

Make your decisions about victory over sin and sinning, based on what God says in His word.

Don't make your decisions based on your own experience.
Don't make your decisions based on another person's experiences.

If God does not provide, command, enable believers with victory over all sin at all times, then how much sin does He save us from?
How much sin does He allow?
How many sins does it take to separate from God?
If you break one of God's commands, how many commands have you broken?

Should a murderer expect to give up most murder after he gets saved?
Should a wife beater only beat his wife occasionally after he gets saved.
Should a philandering husband or wife be mostly faithful to their marriage or completely faithful after salvation?
Should a thief only steal from rich people after he gets saved?
Should a pedophile only violate a few children after he gets saved?
Should a liar only be expected to tell the truth most of the time after he gets saved?

Is God's command to not sin, unclear?
Is God's atonement not sufficient to cleanse from all sin?
Is God's power not able to deliver from temptation?
Is God's will not to conform us to the image of His Son?
Is God's leading unable to lead us, "not into temptation" or is it unable to, "deliver us from the evil one?"
Is God lying when He says that His children do not walk in darkness, when He says that they do not sin?
Is God in error when He says that those who love Him will keep His commandments, and when He says, love is the fulfilling of the law?
Is God mistaken when He say that the person who commits sin is of the devil?
Is God wrong when He says that those who do righteousness are righteous, even as God is righteous?

There is a very evil belief being promoted by a multitude of popular false prophets today, which says God saves us from the penalty of sin, in this life, but not from sin, its pollution, its power, its domain, its deception or from the life of sin and sinning. You may come up with that false belief by listening to errant teachers and misinterpreted Scriptures, but you won't find it clearly taught in the Holy Bible. A salvation that does not save from sin and sinning is not salvation. A savior that does not save from sin and sinning is not a Savior.

We live in a day of woke and broke Christianity. If Satan cannot get people to reject and resist true salvation though one of his schemes, he will resort to other tactics. Don't fall for his lies.

12/20/23 BEWARE THE IMITATIONS

12/20/23 BEWARE THE IMITATIONS

I don't care how anyone "shows" you Scripture, which seems to require, allow or supposedly cover unrepented sin...
if they are saying you cannot be delivered from the penalty, the power and the pollution of sin in this present evil world;
if they are saying that you cannot be cleansed from all sin in this present evil world;
if they are saying you cannot resist temptation;
if they are saying you cannot walk in the Spirit, walk in the light, walk in truth, walk in obedience to God;
if they are saying you cannot be pure, even as Christ is pure;
if they are saying you cannot be perfect in love, as our Heavenly Father is perfect in love;
if they are saying you cannot keep God's commandments and you cannot do that which is pleasing in God's sight;
if they are saying God does not cause us to always triumph in Christ;
if they are saying that you cannot overcome the world, overcome evil with good, overcome the pollutions of the world, overcome the wicked one, overcome evil spirits;
if they are saying that you cannot be more than a conqueror through Christ;
if they are saying that Jesus does not save us to the uttermost in this present evil world...
then they are not only not telling you the whole truth, they are robbing you of the whole truth.

Read the Holy Bible without blinders; follow the Spirit's leading without reservation; die to self, the world, sin; cast off the Old Man. If you are "trusting" in God to save you, without you trusting God to deliver, cleans, empower, guide you into all truth, then you are trusting in a false savior, a false gospel and a false spirit.

I am inviting you to walk in the liberty of the Spirit filled life.
God sets us free from sin.
It is not a work's salvation, it is a salvation that works.

12/20/23 BEING THERE FOR ONE ANOTHER

12/20/23 BEING THERE FOR ONE ANOTHER

I have a reason for this post, beyond it being a personal update.

I have enjoyed good health for about ten months. For a few months prior to that I went through some major health issues, which required hospitalization, continued therapy, medication and help from fellow church folks, without which Martha and I would have been even further burdened. Martha (as always) has managed my care, my medication, my diet, my environment and has been my constant encourager, making my health and well being flourish. In spite of my physical ailments last year, I have enjoyed some of the best health I have had for many years. Not that I have received my glorified body, but my breathing and mobility has been nothing short of miraculous.

Recently, with the regional spread of various "bugs," I have contracted something that has slowed me down considerably. Even Martha (who never gets sick) has been touched by this recent outbreak.

Actually, my whole family (at least locally) and my parishioners have gone through more and varied health problems this past year than we have typically faced through the years. From my communications with other folks, I don't think this is unusual in these days.

The Bible tells us that not all physical ailments are related to a person's spiritual condition. As we see in the life of Job, sometimes the righteous suffer and in fact, physical trial can be the avenue through which God receives glory and sends His blessing.

This life is full of testing and trial.
It is not whether we will be tested, but rather, how we will respond to God's testing. Sometimes our testing is God's reaching out to us, when we don't respond to His kindness. The Bible teaches us that God wants to draw people to Himself through His love, kindness, blessings, but if we refuse to submit to Him, He will use troubles and trials to drive us to repentance.

Hardship or suffering can cause some people to become reflective, compassionate. It is too bad that God has to use the bad stuff in life to get the attention of some folks. What makes it really sad is that most of the time, the people who turn to God and godliness during times of difficulty often return to their old attitudes and actions once their circumstances change. They are "fair weather followers."

I have always found it better to be drawn by God's expressed goodness than driven by God's displeasure.
Through sicknesses it becomes evident, "when one part hurts, the whole body hurts." When the foot hurts, the whole body suffers. When the breathing is difficult, the whole system is oppressed. When the heart, the vision, the digestion is impaired the whole life is impacted. Even the seemingly minor issues of health can cripple an entire life.

This is why we should work toward good health at an early age. Once you get older, your health recovery is no longer the same.
This is why we should pay attention to the messages sent by our body, through symptoms, discomfort, weaknesses.
This is why we should be getting good input from others concerning diet, exercise, habits, lifestyle.
This is why it is good to realize that we are a psycho-physical totality.
When one part hurts, the rest of our self suffers as well.
This is why we should take action early, when we realize a physical problem.

It is better to avoid the problem, when we can, than to solve the problem.
It is better to correct the problem than to ignore the problem.

I know that what I am saying is common sense advice, and I hope it will be an encouragement for someone who is facing health problems.

BUT THAT WAS NOT MY MAIN INTENT.

The principles of a healthy and sound body, which I have addressed in this post also apply to our own spiritual health as well as our corporate "body life."

God has deliberately placed us in a family setting. (Sadly, some families are more toxic than curative). God also places believers in a local family of believers (a local church), which can and should afford the help, encouragement, instruction and support necessary for health (spiritual, relational and personal), growth and success in the Christian life.
It is true that folks can live with bad habits, poor diet, sedentary, self pleasing lifestyles, but that does not mean it is will pay off ultimately and it does not mean that the individual has no responsibility or accountability for living a selfish life. The selfish person is robbing self, family, friends, God and the work God wants them to do. This is especially true concerning our spiritual lives.

We "get away" with a lot for a while, but ultimately we either receive the Divine windfall or we reap the whirlwind.

I have taken my "job," as a husband, father, pastor seriously.
Colossians 1:27-29
27 ...Christ in you, the hope of glory:
28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

My heart breaks whenever anyone refuses to submit to God's word. God's word is not a suggestion, it is His revelation.
It is not simply a good way, it is the only way.
It is not just better life, it is life.
God's will is purity of heart, unity of mind, singleness of purpose.

Holiness is not a "rules and regulation form of life", holiness is loving God with the whole heart and loving our neighbor as we love ourselves.
Holiness is love and love is the fulfilling of the law.
Love is the more excellent way.
This is what God desires for our families.
This is what God desires for His family.

When one part hurts, the whole body hurts.
When one part is broken, the whole body struggles and limps.

We sometimes see a person in terrible physical condition, but they are high on drugs, thinking they are strong and healthy.
We sometimes see folks in terrible spiritual condition, but they are high on self praise, self love, busyness, religious activity, erroneously thinking they are spiritually strong and healthy.

Most of us have seen loved ones who chose to live an unhealthy lifestyle, but they refused to heed warnings or accept counsel. We watch as the "train wreck" is taking place before our very eyes. This is true whether it is physical health, relational health, mental health, emotional health or spiritual health.

As I pointed out at the beginning; our health changes. We need help in dealing with our challenges. Though we cannot always heal or solve physical maladies, we can always be victorious over spiritual trial. It requires personal commitment to sound principles and a right relationship with the rest of your body.

12/19/23 A MOST MEMORABLE CHRISTMAS

12/19/23 A MOST MEMORABLE CHRISTMAS

I have mentioned this before...

But first let me set the stage.
I like old movies. Sometimes I even enjoy musicals. And, yes, I watch some Hallmark Movies and some Hallmark Christmas movies. I like stories with meaning and happy endings.

I realize that there is seldom a theatrical production about Christmas that actually addresses the true meaning of Christmas. Mostly the focus is on family, children, love, restoration, overcoming obstacles and the triumph of the human spirit in the face of tragedy, and all without Jesus. But what do you expect from the unregenerate?

Now, to the reason for this post...
I have mentioned this before. One of my favorite Christmas memories happened about nineteen years ago.
I was pastor in Tennessee at the time. I also was serving as Chaplain in the Transport for Christ Ministry (a 24/7 ministry to OTR truckers, located in truck stops across the country). I served two to three days a week at one of the busiest truck stops in the nation. There was an OTR trailer converted into a Chapel. Usually I would go into Knoxville on Thursday and return home for services on Sunday, however, I would rearrange my schedule to relieve fellow ministers, when there was a holiday (such as Christmas). I ministered to the truck stop workers, the travelers, the transients and of course to the truck drivers. I would hand out tracks, counsel, teach, answer questions, witness and evangelize.

It was a wonderful ministry. I had some wonderful co-workers, a great truck stop staff, met some really fine people, and some really needy people as well. We gave material assistance as well as spiritual ministry.

The Chapel had a small sleeping quarters and a larger meeting room. I have always been quick to wake up and when someone would come into the Chapel in the wee hours of the morning I would get up and minister to them.

One Christmas Eve I was on duty. My wife Martha and our daughter Joanna (who was single and still living at home) went with me. We visited with some of the truck stop staff, shared with some of the truckers and then we went to the truck stop restaurant for supper. Joanna had her guitar, so Martha, Joanna and I went table to table singing Christmas songs to the Christmas travelers, taking requests and wishing them a Merry Christmas. You could see the joy and appreciation on their faces. It really was a Hallmark moment. It was special beyond words.

Sadly while we were there, one of the truck stop personnel approached some folks at a table. The message they brought was heart breaking. A loved one had just had an automobile accident. (I believe their loved one was killed). I went over and talked with them and had prayer.

I have often prayed that our presence that night helped those folks look to Christ.

Sometimes Hallmark moments come and go. The only real hope for a good ending to a story is when people are surrendered to Jesus.

I know there will be many this season who are a million miles away from loved ones, even if they just live around the corner.

See, the reason for the season is reconciliation and living a life of love.

Without the essentials of salvation, it is just an empty, hopeless time of a passing celebration. The true meaning of Christmas is not the tinsel and paper or parties and packages. It is the presence of Jesus in a surrendered life.

People can be just around the corner, but still be millions of miles away. But in Christ, there is no separation. There is love, there is continuity, there is peace on earth and good will to men.

There is no Christmas without Christ. He must be at the center of our celebration, but more importantly He must be at the center of our relationships and of our own life.

12/19/23 DASH CAM

12/19/23 DASH CAM

A quick Dash Cam message. I hope it blesses you.

12/19/23 I NEED HIM ALL THE TIME

12/19/23 I NEED HIM ALL THE TIME

You do know the chorus, "It's me, it's me oh Lord, standing in the need of prayer... Not my brother nor my sister, but it's me oh Lord, standing in the need of prayer."

Realizing this truth can close the door on so many problems and open the door to so many blessings and opportunities. In fact, if we don't realize this truth we open the door to problems and shut the door to blessings and opportunities.
I think of the song, "I need Thee every hour..." and I add, every minute, every second, every millisecond (one thousandth of a second), every microsecond (one millionth of a second), every nanosecond (one billionth of a second), every zeptosecond (one trillionth of a billionth of a second) and beyond and forever. A zeptosecond is one trillionth of a billionth of a second. (Think about it. Break a second of time into one billion parts, then take one of those billionth parts and divide it into a trillion parts). We need Him, yes we need Him. He is life. It is by Him that all things consist. He upholds, maintains gives existence to all things.

When we realize how much we need Him, we will be less inclined to look for the fault and flaws in other people.
I need Him.
I need His life.
I need His support.
And, I need Him all the time.

12/18/23 RESISTING GOD HARDENS THE SOUL

12/18/23 RESISTING GOD HARDENS THE SOUL

Through the years I have posted about a wide variety of sins. As a preacher/teacher, seeking the reconciliation of sinners and the restoration of backsliders, this is my responsibility. Sometimes folks have misinterpreted my postings as rants concerning sin in my own local congregation. Obviously I address sins in our own local body, but I either do that in personal, face-to-face confrontations or counseling, or preaching God's word from the pulpit.

My approach is not not to "rifle" my message at a particular individual, though I do target certain sins. Instead, I "shotgun" the message, trusting that God will speak through His Holy Spirit to individuals about their own need to repent. I do not use my position as pastor to attack people and I do not hide behind my office.

With the wide variety of people who have come through our services, and the spiritual condition of our society, I preach, teach, counsel and write about many different sins.

It is always with the hope or reaching people with the saving message and grace of God. Many churches have rejected the basic message of God's word concerning holiness of heart and life, and with the rise of false doctrines and wok-ism, the truths of God's word are rare in our so-called "Christian" society.

Sadly, many (if not most) Bible preaching churches today are seeing few people admit their spiritual bankruptcy and turn from their sinful lives. Not only are most sinners hardened against the call of God, great numbers of backsliders are not repenting. They are apparently presuming on God for salvation. Sinning religion is running rampant.

12/16/23 KEEPING THE UNITY

12/16/23 KEEPING THE UNITY

One of Satan's strategies is to stir a spirit of division within a believer's mind (through suspicion, disagreement, misunderstanding, criticism, haughtiness).

Sometimes there is a legitimate reason for broken relationships and sometimes broken relationships cannot be healed because someone will not turn from sinful behavior. But I am referring to believers allowing divisiveness in their own mind rather than being patient, loving, forgiving, compassionate.

We all have our idiosyncrasies, whether we know it or not. Sometimes we don't realize how we are hurting someone. Sometimes the fault we see in other people is real and sometimes it is imagined. In any case, some relationships are lost because a believer allows non-essentials to ruin a relationship.

Once we allow an unhealthy attitude within ourselves, to move us away from a believer, we set ourselves up to be moved away from God.
Openness, patience, humility are redemptive responses to other people.

I am not referring to our response to actual sin in another person. But even when the other person is deliberately sinning, we should be redemptive and live at peace with them, as far as it is possible.

We are to do to others as we would want others to do to us. In fact, we should extend the same kindness to them that God extends to us.

Remember, this is not a call to gloss over someone's sin, but it is a reminder to guard against the wiles of the wicked one, who wants to sow discord and division within our own heart.

Ephesians 4:1-7
1  I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2  With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3  Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6  One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
7  But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

12/14/23 JESUS NEVER WAVERED

12/14/23 JESUS NEVER WAVERED

For those who erroneously believe that Jesus tried to escape the cross, that Jesus feared the cross, then you should not have a problem with the Woke mentality that says Jesus had flaws. In fact, folks are saying that Jesus actually sinned or that He became actual sin (when in reality, the Father made Him to be the sin sacrifice, as 2 Corinthians 5:21 should be understood to say).

Jesus did not become perversion, abortion, deception, murder, corruption, He became the sacrifice that takes away the sins of the world.
Jesus did not fear or try to escape the cross when He prayed in the Garden. He was praying that He would be saved from impending death which would have kept Him from the Cross.
Jesus, throughout eternity planned on dying for the sins of the world.

Jesus was promised and prophesied to take away our sins on the cross.
Jesus was born to die on the cross.
Jesus lived, taught, ministered and pursued His death on the cross.
Jesus promised and prophesied His death on the cross.
Jesus prayed that He would not die in the Garden and He was heard and saved from death in the Garden.

Neither did Jesus ever sin or become sin.
Jesus had no flaws, He had no failures.
Jesus was the flawless, sinless sacrifice for the sins of the world.
"Christians" have fallen into the trap of demeaning Christ, His nature, His life, His mission and His reputation by ascribing sin and failure to Him.

Modern, Liberal, Woke "Christianity" has a different Jesus, a different gospel and a different Spirit than the Biblical Jesus, Gospel and Holy Spirit.
People feel better when they can bring God down to their sinful level.

Jesus came, as a Man, but He had no sin.
Jesus came in the likeness of sinful flesh to condemn sin in the flesh.

People want salvation without transformation.
People want a form of godliness without the power of salvation.
People want forgiveness without repentance.
People want newness without dying to the world, the flesh and the devil.

We are going to see more people turning away from the Bible message and we are going to see Christians blasphemed because they will not crawl into the pigsty with friends and family members.

12/14/23 DASH-CAM MESSAGES JESUS IS REALLY REAL.

12/14/23 DASH-CAM MESSAGES
JESUS IS REALLY REAL

Just me saying Merry Christmas as I drive along.

I talk about my "real" imaginary friend, and Santa being real in the sense of make believe, and Jesus being really real in the realm of reality. Just a fun little video to wish you a Merry Little Christmas. Hey, maybe I will sing for you. hehehe. That ought to brighten up your Christmas.

12/14/23 DEDICATION TO TRUTH

12/14/23 DEDICATION TO TRUTH

There are some very talented, concerned and sometimes committed people involved in church work. This is admirable and desirable. However, if the teaching is askew, if their possession does not measure up to their profession, if the focus is on the messenger or the messaging rather than on the Message (Jesus is the Message), then their ministry is a sham, it is a waste of life, time, talent, ability and opportunity.

Bible preaching, pastoral leadership, spiritual counsel, body life, unity with believers, personal submission and sacrifice are essential to reaching full potential in serving God, personally and corporately.

12/13/23 DON'T BLAME THE DEVIL

12/13/23 DON'T BLAME THE DEVIL

I don't agree with Flip Wilson's famous line, "The devil made me do it."

There is an evil spirit at work in the world who has a fully staffed network of evil spirits, but human wickedness springs from individuals who deliberately want to do evil or have been deceived into doing evil because they refuse to believe God and they willingly oppose God's revealed authority.

I don't place blame of evil action on spirits, such as "the spirit of anger," "the spirit of deceit," "the spirit of lust," "the spirit of ignorance," "the spirit of hiccoughs." I am not saying that there are not evil spirits who use specific evil methods. I am saying that humans do evil because they choose to do evil. We either produce the works of the flesh or the fruit of the Spirit. All the demons in hell cannot make us sin. We choose to either trust God or not to trust God.

With that being said, I do believe that there are evil spiritual influences at work in the world. Sometimes there is a unified effort by Satan to stir up hatred, lust, deception, idolatry. In that sense I may say, "there is a spirit of (whatever) in the world."

When a wrestler (or other athletic adversary) finds a weak spot in his opponent he works on that weakness. This is true in business, politics, personal and international relationships. It is not surprising that the powers of darkness also use this strategy.

However, the attack of Satan and his minions is not the problem in society. The problem is the sinfulness of man, the willful blindness and rebellion of man, which gives place to evil spirits. This is the problem today with people of all ages, but especially seen in the demonic rebellion of young people.

There is an atmosphere (or a "spirit") of disobedience to parents, an atmosphere of rebellion of every kind. The attack of darkness is intensifying because the rejection of God allows darkness to thrive.

We see this in various passages. Here are a couple of those passages.
2 Thessalonians 2:7-12
7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

(I designate [with brackets] some particulars appropriate to today's misguided pseudo-intellectuals)
2 Timothy 3:1-7
1 This know also, that [in the last days] [perilous times shall come].
2 For men shall be [lovers of their own selves], [covetous], [boasters], [proud], [blasphemers], [disobedient to parents], [unthankful], [unholy],
3 [Without natural affection], [trucebreakers], [false accusers], [incontinent (without self control)], [fierce], [despisers of those that are good],
4 [Traitors], [heady], [highminded], [lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God];
5 [Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof]: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 [Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth].
